Brutus’s goal to unify Rome

Ideas and Content
In my Julius Caesar essay I have learned how to explain quotations more. In the Alchemist essay I put a quote in my writing and, then I started to write things that did not come from the quote. I’m going with you, the boy said and then he immediately felt peace in his heart.” (Coelho pp.116) This quote shows that Santiago is a young shepherd in “The Alchemist” This was a part of my Alchemist essay I thought that the quote represent a shepherd, but as I look over I was questioning my writing. In my Brutus essay I have explained my thinking on paper more than on my head this time. In the next essay I would write down a quote then explain. Then I would reread it to make sure that I explained like in my head.

Organization
In both my essays I have included a thesis statement, to help organize my ideas. In the alchemist essay I have not made proper transition sentence. Santiago would have not started his journey if he did not have some curiosity and had those decisions to make on his own. This did not clearly represent my next paragraph. I should start to look over my ideas more often to make sure it makes sense. In the next essay I should read my thesis statement to help me make transition sentences.

Personal Growth
I did improve over the time, in my essays. In my alchemist essay it was all me doing it. For some people they show their parents or tutors but I do it by myself. I have grow3m in my writing skills, thanks to all the paragraphs we write in humanities. I have learned the correct placing of thesis statements, which is a big part in the essay. My ideas in my head can now migrate easier to the paper because I have learned how to place my ideas. I know I have grown as a writer.

SLR Reflection
In my essays I have reasoned critically because I had to find out a way to lay out my ideas. My ideas were focused with my topic sentence but sometimes my details were not as good as they could be.. I needed to use this SLR because when you make an essay you need to make sure your reader understands your ideas clearly and not just yourself. Reason critically is a big part on essays because you always have to make sure your ideas and contexts make sense.

“I know no personal cause to spurn at him, But for the general. He would be crown’d”(Page 62 Act 2.1) This character is in Julius Caesar play by Shakespeare, his name is Brutus. He is a noble man of Rome and he loves his country but he believes that his country will fall apart because of Caesar’s power growing, that Rome will once more become a monarchy. Brutus wants to unify Rome and his love for his country and his sense of honor causes him to belive that the only way to maintain the Roman Republic is to assassinate Caesar.

Brutus’s Patriotism for his country made him join the conspirators, who were planning to assassinate Caesar. He is motivated by his love for his country because he wants Rome to maintain its Republic government. Brutus always puts his country before friendship. Brutus has just received a letter saying that he needs to act now because Rome will once for become a monarchy. What Brutus does not know that his friend Cassius has wrote those letters so that way he would join the conspirators. “O Rome, I make thee promise… thy full petition at hands of Brutus.” (Page 66 Act 2.1) This quotation shows that Brutus wants to act on Caesars threat to turn Rome back to a monarchy. Brutus wants to join them because he cares about his country. His Patriotism made him join the conspirators and willing to assassinate Caesar for his country. Brutus is a great friend with Caesar but he loves his country much more. Brutus and the conspirators have just assassinated Caesar and now they are in his funeral. The crowd is demanding answers and Brutus gives a speech in his funeral. “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” (Page 128 Act 3.2) This shows that Brutus wants his country to know that he loves his people more than friends. He wanted to maintain Rome as it was by assassinating Caesar. This has motivated him to put his country first before his friends. Brutus is a man of his country and he is well respected because of his honor.

Brutus is also a man of honor; he always tries to be as honorable as possible. He is motivated this way because he wants to be in the high rank of the social pyramid. His honor wants him to only live with honor or if he didn’t have any he would rather die. Brutus is with the conspirators and he is telling them that they should try and be a purgers and not butchers. “ Let ’s crave him as a dish fit for the gods… We shall be call’d purgers, not murderers.” (Page 74 Act 2.1) Brutus is taking the leadership role of Cassius because Brutus believes that he is guiding them to be murderers and not purgers. This quotation shows that Brutus respects people and does not want to kill Caesar savagely. This motivated Brutus to take leadership of Cassius and do ‘it the right way’. Brutus does not all want to seem savage because that will make loss his honor and honor is his life. Brutus is at war with Mark Antony and now he is regretting his actions towards Caesar. Brutus is losing the war and Antony is searching for all the conspirators so he could slay them. “Thy life hath had some smatch of honour in it. Hold then my sword, and turn away thy face.”

(Page 216 Act 5.5) This shows that Brutus has lost his honor and he killed himself so he would no longer stand it. He wanted to keep the honor he had left so he killed himself. This motivated him to think twice about his action and then he realized that he did not do the right thing. Brutus goal was to maintain the Roman Republic but he ended up doing the opposite thing.

Brutus wanted to unify his country but he has helped ruin his country. His Patriotism and his honor made him join the conspirators to assassinate Caesar. All his motivators made him act on Caesar immediately but he wanted to do it in a way of honor. The goal of Brutus was to unify Rome but he has caused a civil war between his country. He did not achieve his goal because he did the exact opposite of his goal was. He has made his country in war and the Roman Republic was no more. His act was not noble or worthy but his goal was because he thought by assassinating Caesar it would unify Rome. He no longer wanted to live in his shame so he thought the best way was by killing himself. Brutus had much Patriotism and honor in him that he thought he had the right goal but his ideas in his head did not come so ell in the real world of the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.

My collage's journey

Think Creatively!
In my collage I have used creative elements to make more interesting. If you look at my collage you start and the top right. (The higher you are in the poster the happier the journey was)
If you go down there are pictures of war and of the lost boy’s migration. Then if you go back up again slightly going right too, you will see refugee camps. Back down its USA with the fast food and the difficulties they faced (Rent, money, receipts) Top left is the biggest part of the journey the achievement of an education. I thought the way I arranged my pictures was creative.

Reason Critically!
I have put my text and images in an organized way to highlight my understanding. The way its organized shows that I clearly know the stepped migration of the lost boys. Also the way it’s organized is like a story, the story of the lost boys. The story shows all the many situations the lost boys have been through, and how they got better eventually.

Communicate Effectively!
My collage screams for help to the lost boys. After a person looks at my collage closely and follows the story, they would empathy for the lost boys. I have put a website that you can learn more about the lost boys and donate. That shows awareness in my collage.

Live Ethically!
If my viewers look closely they will feel empathy for the lost boys. I think my collage shows the journey of the lost boys with lots of details (images, text) With those details it will make my viewer at least spread the word of the lost boys of Sudan. If they see the website I posted they would want to check it out, for more information about the lost boys.

Peter the 'Lost Boy'

Peter is from Sudan and he is a “Lost Boy”. When he was a young boy he had to do a forced migration. Many boys (and some girls) had fled from their villages and looked for helped all over their country. There was war were they lived and they had to cross their country for refuge. The people that were migrated and become there came to be few of them because of starvation, heat, wildlife attacking them, shot at, crossing of river Gilo. Only few survived only to live in a refuge camp. After 11 years they were migrating into America. They were very lucky to have an opportunity to do this. When they were going to America they thought it was ‘heaven’ but after a short while after arrival they found many difficult tasks of American culture. They needed jobs to have money for food, shelter. They were being robbed in their house and that was difficult for Peter because he needed the money for himself and to send to his family in Sudan. Peter wanted to be educated so ‘when’ he comes back he would teach his people in Sudan.

Peter was very shocked on how different it was in the U.S.A. It was hard for him to deal with this but he managed to pull it off. He moved to Kansas because he thought that there many schools over there and he thought right. He managed his time school, eat, work, homework. Every day he did the same thing. One night he called his sister and his sister was angry because Peter was not sending much money to Sudan. Peter income was every low and he had to take care of himself and Sudan. Peter eventually graduated and his hard work did pay off because he was heading for university.

Brutus's soliloquy

Raul

Brutus’s soliloquy is when he makes the decision to assassinate Caesar before he gets the crown. This is an important passage because it shows Brutus’s thinking of the situation his in. He will the conspirators because he believes it’s the right thing for his country. He will join the conspirators and they will assassinate Caesar before Rome comes back to a monarchy government. Brutus says that Caesar’s nature might change when he becomes king, and he will not let that happen. Then he is certain that he is doing the right thing when he talks to himself. Brutus also thinks of other ways for him not o be king then he says it must be by Caesar’s death. This passage was important to the play because it showed Brutus’s point of view in Caesar’s death.

Act 2
Scene 1
Lines 10-34
BRUTUS It must be by his death: and for my part,
I know no personal cause to spurn at him,
But for the general. He would be crown'd:
How that might change his nature, there's the question.
It is the bright day that brings forth the adder,
And that craves wary walking. Crown him?-that?
And then, I grant, we put a sting in him,
That at his will he may do danger with.
The abuse of greatness is, when it disjoins
Remorse from power: and, to speak truth of Caesar,
I have not known when his affections sway'd
More than his reason. But 'tis a common proof,
That lowliness is young ambition's ladder,
Whereto the climber-upward turns his face;
But when he once attains the upmost round,
He then unto the ladder turns his back,
Looks in the clouds, scorning the base degrees
By which he did ascend. So Caesar may,
Then, lest he may, prevent. And, since the quarrel
Will bear no colour for the thing he is,
Fashion it thus; that what he is, augmented,
Would run to these and these extremities;
And therefore think him as a serpent's egg
Which, hatch'd, would, as his kind, grow mischievous,
And kill him in the shell.
