If I were to be put in the painting “School of Athens” I would put my self as Euclid of Alexandria. Euclid was a Greek mathematician. He was the Western influence in math for over 2,000 years. I always try my best in math and I am a good student. I am not the best of the best but I am in a way. I am goo at teaching people the short cuts of math. I show my little brother what he is going to learn in my grade. He seems to understand as he had been in class. I am not the best but I am a quick learner. People can master the method but I can’t. I can learn quicker than others but I can not fully mater it. That is who I would put myself in the painting. (The guy writing something with a compass on the right)

Believe in yourself Get to know yourself what you can do and what you cannot do for only you can make your life happy
Believe in work, learning and achieving as a way of reaching your goals and being successful
Believe in creativity as a means of expressing your true feelings and as a way of being spontaneous
Believe in appreciating life Be sure to have fun every day and to enjoy the beauty in the world
Believe in loving Love your friends, love your family love yourself, love your life
Believe in long-term relationships Be sure the people are worthy of your love and be very honest with them
Believe in your dreams and your dreams can become a reality
~Susan Polis Schutz
“Believe In Your Dreams” is a poem about never giving up and always try your best. If every body tried something and failed then there would not be this future. Lot of inventors have failed but they learned from there mistakes and made better then it was suppose to be. The Wright brothers tried many times and failed many times but tin the end they succeed and made a big difference in his world and in our world. Lot of artists tried hard in there painting and they looked horrible but they did not give up in there dreams. Leonardo da Vinci was not so famous in his time but now he painted the greatest painting in the world “The Monalisa”! This poem represents our great time influenced by the past.

In The Alchemist, Coelho shows if you want to dream you have to think like a dreamer. “There was nothing to hold him back except himself. The sheep, the merchant’s daughter, and the fields of Andalusia were only steps along the way to his destiny.” (Coelho 27) There is nothing to hold you back but you always think in a different point of view. That way you validly see the outcomes of the choices. “He had suddenly remembered that, in Tarifa, there was an old woman who interpreted dreams.” (11) Coelho is showing that you should not be afraid to dream because it helps you think out your ideas. Your dreams help you think in different ways so you can understand. Coelho says that dreams help you think in a different direction.

Santiago and my destiny
The Sky is the Limit
“I’m going with you, the boy said and then he immediately felt peace in his heart.” (Coelho pp.116) This quote shows that Santiago is a young shepherd in “The Alchemist”, and when he does the right thing to achieve his destiny his heart reassures him. When the boy is unsure of things he always listens to his heart for help. Santiago is a young shepherd who tries to achieve his destiny, which he has to take a journey to great pyramids of Egypt. Santiago is leaving his life from Andalusia and going to the great pyramids of Egypt but there are many hiccups in the way. Those challenges that he crossed helped him understands himself more. Santiago encounters many people who have spare wisdom to offer to him. The boy takes every bit of knowledge and converts it into his own. Santiago truly achieves understands his destiny by being curious, direct and open-minded.
On his journey, Santiago is encouraged by his curiosity to gain a deeper understanding of his destiny. “He had suddenly remembered that, in Tarifa, there was an old woman who interpreted dreams.”(pp. 11) Santiago had this recurring dream that a boy teleported him to the pyramids of Egypt and said ‘If you come here you will find treasure.’ Santiago wondered what his dream infinitely meant, and he visited an old women how interpreted dreams. The old lady said that if it’s a boy that took you there, it is a true treasure real. Later on Santiago’s journey he meets a crystal merchant that is wise in crystals. When Santiago started to work for him, the crystal merchant had told him about the five obligations to be a Muslim. Every thing was fine until he was crying in the fifth obligation; Santiago asked him what was wrong. The merchant said that he did not want to accomplish his destiny because there would be nothing to keep him going. Then he learned that some people don’t want to complete their destiny, because you would have nothing to look forward too. By the end of the book, Santiago is with the alchemist and the alchemist is showing him something unusual. That alchemist had made metal into gold right under Santiago’s nose. Santiago asks if he will learn how to make metal into gold but the alchemist said that this was his own destiny and not yours. Santiago wanted to learn so he would have a deeper understanding of himself. Santiago would have not started his journey if he did not have some curiosity and had those decisions to make on his own.
Santiago might be unsure about some of his decisions, but he communicates his ideas in a direct way. When he meets the crystal merchant, he told him if he cleans his crystal he would get some food. Santiago cleaned the crystals and the merchant told Santiago that he didn’t have to clean the crystals. The merchant continued telling him that he is obligated to give food to the hungry. He did receive some food after all but he didn’t have to clean the crystals. “Eat when it’s time to eat. And move along when it’s time to move along.” (pp.86) Santiago does tasks when its time to do those tasks. That way he will not have to overcome some extra obstacles by not following the rules. So he sticks with what he has to in the moment. That helped Santiago by having the chance to listen to the dessert. Later on he meets a woman of the dessert and he asked her directly, I want you to be my wife. Santiago just looked at her asked and asked if she wanted to get married with him. Fatima said that she did not want to interrupt his destiny and that she is the woman of the dessert. Santiago didn’t feel good but then he said that he would pick her up when he completed his destiny and left immediately. Then Santiago realized the women of the dessert are meant to be waiting for there men. Santiago is a direct person, but also takes chance in his life.
Santiago has always been open-minded through out his journey to find the true meaning of his destiny. “There was nothing to hold him back except himself. The sheep, the merchant’s daughter, and the fields of Andalusia were only steps along the way to his destiny.” Santiago is thinking of abandoning his home Andalusia, to find out what his destiny means. There are things that are making him think of staying home but in the end he takes the risk. It was hard for him because he was leaving something he already had for something that he was not sure that exists. When Santiago meets the crystal merchant, he offers Santiago a job. Santiago takes the job because he has to make some money and this is his best chance to start fresh. Santiago could have gone off to find a better job but he thought for the old crystal merchant that he needed Santiago’s youth. He also thought that he might be a beneficial friend and boss. Later Santiago is living in the Oasis and once again he has to leave every one he knows to continue his journey. Santiago at first doesn’t want to leave because he fell in love with a woman of the dessert. Then the alchemist explains his future if he doesn’t go to the pyramids. Santiago thinks about the two outcomes and he decides to continue. Santiago was open-minded to leave and start his journey.
After roaming in a circle from Andalusia to Egypt and back to Spain. Then the boy realized that the journey was the actual treasure. In the way Santiago’s heart served as guide to achieve and truly discoverer his destiny. Santiago’s trait of his personality supported his heart by being curious, direct and open-minded. He has been curious to find out what his dream actually meant. When he had traveled in the dessert, he only did the tasks that were required so he would not have to overcome extra obstacles. Santiago was open-minded when he was in Oasis to continue his journey and once again leave every thing behind. Santiago knows every correct decision if he listens to his heart. He might have to listen harder than other times but always in the end he made the right choice. Everyone will achieve their own destiny as long as they listen to their heart, just like how Santiago did.
