In my Julius Caesar essay I have learned how to explain quotations more. In the Alchemist essay I put a quote in my writing and, then I started to write things that did not come from the quote. I’m going with you, the boy said and then he immediately felt peace in his heart.” (Coelho pp.116) This quote shows that Santiago is a young shepherd in “The Alchemist” This was a part of my Alchemist essay I thought that the quote represent a shepherd, but as I look over I was questioning my writing. In my Brutus essay I have explained my thinking on paper more than on my head this time. In the next essay I would write down a quote then explain. Then I would reread it to make sure that I explained like in my head.
Organization
In both my essays I have included a thesis statement, to help organize my ideas. In the alchemist essay I have not made proper transition sentence. Santiago would have not started his journey if he did not have some curiosity and had those decisions to make on his own. This did not clearly represent my next paragraph. I should start to look over my ideas more often to make sure it makes sense. In the next essay I should read my thesis statement to help me make transition sentences.
Personal Growth
I did improve over the time, in my essays. In my alchemist essay it was all me doing it. For some people they show their parents or tutors but I do it by myself. I have grow3m in my writing skills, thanks to all the paragraphs we write in humanities. I have learned the correct placing of thesis statements, which is a big part in the essay. My ideas in my head can now migrate easier to the paper because I have learned how to place my ideas. I know I have grown as a writer.
SLR Reflection
In my essays I have reasoned critically because I had to find out a way to lay out my ideas. My ideas were focused with my topic sentence but sometimes my details were not as good as they could be.. I needed to use this SLR because when you make an essay you need to make sure your reader understands your ideas clearly and not just yourself. Reason critically is a big part on essays because you always have to make sure your ideas and contexts make sense.
Brutus’s Patriotism for his country made him join the conspirators, who were planning to assassinate Caesar. He is motivated by his love for his country because he wants Rome to maintain its Republic government. Brutus always puts his country before friendship. Brutus has just received a letter saying that he needs to act now because Rome will once for become a monarchy. What Brutus does not know that his friend Cassius has wrote those letters so that way he would join the conspirators. “O Rome, I make thee promise… thy full petition at hands of Brutus.” (Page 66 Act 2.1) This quotation shows that Brutus wants to act on Caesars threat to turn Rome back to a monarchy. Brutus wants to join them because he cares about his country. His Patriotism made him join the conspirators and willing to assassinate Caesar for his country. Brutus is a great friend with Caesar but he loves his country much more. Brutus and the conspirators have just assassinated Caesar and now they are in his funeral. The crowd is demanding answers and Brutus gives a speech in his funeral. “Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” (Page 128 Act 3.2) This shows that Brutus wants his country to know that he loves his people more than friends. He wanted to maintain Rome as it was by assassinating Caesar. This has motivated him to put his country first before his friends. Brutus is a man of his country and he is well respected because of his honor.
Brutus is also a man of honor; he always tries to be as honorable as possible. He is motivated this way because he wants to be in the high rank of the social pyramid. His honor wants him to only live with honor or if he didn’t have any he would rather die. Brutus is with the conspirators and he is telling them that they should try and be a purgers and not butchers. “ Let ’s crave him as a dish fit for the gods… We shall be call’d purgers, not murderers.” (Page 74 Act 2.1) Brutus is taking the leadership role of Cassius because Brutus believes that he is guiding them to be murderers and not purgers. This quotation shows that Brutus respects people and does not want to kill Caesar savagely. This motivated Brutus to take leadership of Cassius and do ‘it the right way’. Brutus does not all want to seem savage because that will make loss his honor and honor is his life. Brutus is at war with Mark Antony and now he is regretting his actions towards Caesar. Brutus is losing the war and Antony is searching for all the conspirators so he could slay them. “Thy life hath had some smatch of honour in it. Hold then my sword, and turn away thy face.”
(Page 216 Act 5.5) This shows that Brutus has lost his honor and he killed himself so he would no longer stand it. He wanted to keep the honor he had left so he killed himself. This motivated him to think twice about his action and then he realized that he did not do the right thing. Brutus goal was to maintain the Roman Republic but he ended up doing the opposite thing.
Brutus wanted to unify his country but he has helped ruin his country. His Patriotism and his honor made him join the conspirators to assassinate Caesar. All his motivators made him act on Caesar immediately but he wanted to do it in a way of honor. The goal of Brutus was to unify Rome but he has caused a civil war between his country. He did not achieve his goal because he did the exact opposite of his goal was. He has made his country in war and the Roman Republic was no more. His act was not noble or worthy but his goal was because he thought by assassinating Caesar it would unify Rome. He no longer wanted to live in his shame so he thought the best way was by killing himself. Brutus had much Patriotism and honor in him that he thought he had the right goal but his ideas in his head did not come so ell in the real world of the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.
